New String Collective

Peter is a founder member of New String Collective, a group of bowed-string players interested in pushing at the edges of the conventional string orchestra. Comprising some of Scotland’s most exciting, radical string players, improvisation is at the heart of its process and practice. Unbound by the hegemony of notation, New String Collective is free to interrogate sound and form, and to mine the rich sonic landscapes of the violin, viola, cello and double bass.

The group is resident at the Old Hairdresser’s in Glasgow where they played their debut gig in June 2023. Since then they have performed in Edinburgh, at Sharmanka in Glasgow and in a collaboration with filmmaker Jennifer Wicks.
